Annual 2023 Whitetail Buck Contest – September 30th, 2023 -January 21st, 2024
**YOU MUST BE SIGNED UP BEFORE OPENING MORNING OF GENERAL RIFLE SEASON**
All deer antlers must be brought to the Country Corner for scoring. If a set of antlers do not look fresh the hunter may be required to furnish evidence that the buck was taken in the 2023 season.
*NEW RULES*
- NO out of state deer will be eligible for entry.
- NO mounts of any type will be eligible for entry.
RULES:
- $50 Entry Fee – one winning entry per TEXAS licensed hunter
- You may only enter your deer in one category; however, you may enter multiple deer. Judges may move a deer to different categories during the contest.
- Deer will be measured on TUESDAY NIGHTS FROM 6 PM – 9 PM
- Country Corner Scorers have the right to declare any entry ineligible if IT IS THEIR OPINION THAT the deer was not harvested legally, by fair chase, or in accordance with the contest rules.
- All entries must be killed in accordance with rules/regulations of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
- Each participant must enter his/her own kill and the antlers must be attached to a sufficient portion of the head, neck, and cape of a freshly killed deer in the state of TEXAS.
- Any “velvet” bucks entered will be subject to a 3% deduction in order to be entered in the contest. If the hunter chooses, he/she may have the velvet “scraped” or “removed” and will not be subject to the 3% deduction. However, if you choose to remove the velvet, the deer must be measured within 15 days of the date the deer was killed.
ALL MALES AND FEMALES, 17 years or older at the time of the kill are required to compete in the Women’s or Men’s Division
ALL MALES AND FEMALES, 16 years or under at the time of the kill can compete in the Youth Division unless otherwise indicated.
ALL CATEGORIES WILL BE SCORED ON THE BOONE AND CROCKETT SCORING SYSTEM. ALL MEASUREMENTS WILL BE GROSS SCORED AND ALL POINTS MUST BE 1” TO BE SCORED.
i.e., If a deer is a main frame 8 with one of the main points broken off making it less than 1” it will be scored as an 8 point with a 0 for that point. The longest spike will be the total of both antlers.
IF ONE OF THE ANTLERS LOOKS TO HAVE A POINT COMING OFF THE HORN THE JUDGES WILL DETERMINE IF IT IS A TRUE SPIKE.
JUDGES WILL MAKE ALL FINAL DECISIONS ON ANY RULINGS.
